1. As our use of plastics grows, so does pollution on land and in our oceans. What are some ways you and your family can reduce plastic use in your home?
2. In 2014, California became the first state to ban single-use plastic bags in grocery stores and other businesses. Also, a 10-cent minimum charge is now in place if you need to use a plastic or paper bag. Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, New York, Oregon and Vermont are states that have also started placing bans and fees on plastic. Are you in a city or state that has plastic bans? How has this changed your family’s day to day lifestyle? Do you agree or disagree with this ban?
3. Do you buy used things sometimes? If so, what do you buy used instead of new? How does this impact the environment?
Students will be able to research how plastic is made, used, and its effect on the environment using informational texts and videos to write an informational essay.
